So, I’m pro-life and I’ve been on the March for Life several times, but I’m always wondering if there’s something more that I can do for the pro-life community. Well, today I have an opportunity of just showing up in prayer. There’s this awesome program called Spiritual Adoption that could be for you! Keep reading to find out how easy it is to adopt an unborn child!

The Purpose of the Spiritual Adoption Program:

  • Encourage parishes, schools, and other communities to pray for babies in danger of abortion
  • Educate adults and children about the development of the pre-born child
  • Provide mothers in need with assistance at a ‘baby shower’ of donated baby gifts, or simply celebrate with a ‘birthday party’ at the conclusion of the program.

How Does the Program Work?

It’s a very simple program to participate in! You simply pledge to pray for your spiritually adopted baby, then continue saying that prayer every day for nine months! You can make up your own prayer, say a rosary for them, or the program gives you this prayer:

“Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to protect the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted. Mary, our Mother in Heaven, pray for us, and especially for your little ones! Because God loves every baby He creates, I promise to pray for my spiritually adopted baby for nine months.”

So, you say this prayer every day for nine months, then during each month, the “spiritual parents” are given information about how they’re baby is developing such as when it begins to grow fingernails or when they kick for the first time. This allows the participant to further understand that they are praying for an actual unborn baby.

At the end of the nine months, there’s a “baby shower” or a “birthday day” that can be held in celebration that the child was born! Here, people can bring baby items such as diapers and toys to be donated to a local pregnancy center.

But Am I Really Praying for a Child?

YES! The power of this program is through the Lord. Through these prayers that are being said, we are allowed to intercede on behalf of others. This program is just like saying a rosary for a friend who needs help finding a job. The baby that you have spiritually adopted is real in a mother’s womb. This child may be unwanted, talked bad upon, or physically hurt due to their surroundings. This child needs the prayers of others. Through this program, you’re given an unborn child to pray for, one that only God knows where he/she is. Many people have found that naming their child and placing that name in the prayer everyday helps to keep them focused on the reality that their prayers are helping to save a particular baby from the harm of abortion.
